Ethiopia: Ethiopia’s central bank signed an agreement with its counterpart in the United Arab Emirates to establish a bilateral currency swap agreement with a value of up to $816.79m.

Bolivia: The Bolivian government announced the discovery of a natural gas “megafield”, with a capacity of 1.7tn cubic feet of natural gas, in what it says is the biggest discovery since 2005. China: China has begun joint naval drills with Russia in the South China Sea. The exercise, Joint Sea 2024, is an annual event which has been taking place since 2012, and will sea Russia’s Pacific Fleet and the PLA Navy conduct joint air defence exercises, anti-submarine exercises, and practice conducting resupplies while ships are moving.

Armenia: Armenia has launched joint military drills with the US in a move that is likely to see its relations with Russia deteriorate even further. The “Eagle Partner” war games are aimed at increasing cooperation between units participating in international peacekeeping missions.

EU: The EU is holding a provisional vote on whether to impose tariffs on electric vehicles (EVs) built in China to prevent the market being flooded with heavily-government-subsidised Chinese EVs. The vote is not binding, and will be followed by a fianl vote after which the European Commission’s tariff proposal will be adopted unless a majority votes against it.

Ukraine: Ukrain’s state company Ukroboronservice and Czech ammunition maker Sellier & Bellot plan to build an ammunition factory in Ukraine after joint government meetings in Prague. The Czech Republic has been a major backer of Kyiv in its efforts to hold of Russia’s invasion.

Gaza: Palestinian health officials say at least 57 people have been killed in the latest Israeli bombardments of the southern and central parts of Gaza. Hamas claims Israel is stepping up attacks to derail ceasefire talks, but Israel says it is conducting them to root out Hamas fighters.

Iran: Tehran is open to restarting negotiations with the US over bringing the nuclear deal back online according to acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani. The US withdrew from the deal - which restricted Iran’s nuclear programmes - in 2018 under then-President Donald Trump.

Israel: The EU has sanctioned five Israelis and three entities after it described them as responsible for “serious and systemic human rights abuses”. The list includes Tzav 9, which is accused of blocking humanitarian aid trucks delivering vital supplies to the Gaza Strip.

Saudi Arabia: The International Monetary Fund has revised Saudi Arabia’s economic growth downwards by 0.9% due to oil production cuts. The revision means the Middle East and North Africa region’s projected growth rate has been cut by 0.5% as a whole.
